Scrub, Rinse, Repeat: Getting Your Data AI-Ready
AI tools are only as useful as the data, workflows, and governance behind them. Before a grants management system can support smarter reporting, automation, or AI-enabled insights, organizations need to confront the data debt already living in their systems.
In this session, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation and Grantbook will share how they tackled one of the most comprehensive data cleanup initiatives in the Foundation’s history — addressing more than 80,000 records, fields, reports, templates, and other system artifacts accumulated across 30 years of grantmaking. Together, they assessed the scope of the problem, shaped a multi-phase cleanup roadmap, mobilized a cross-functional team, and developed governance practices to keep the system cleaner over time.
Attendees will leave with a practical framework for sizing a cleanup effort, prioritizing what matters, building shared ownership, and connecting data hygiene to reporting accuracy, operational efficiency, and AI readiness
